Holiday History

History and holidays go hand in hand in Montgomery County. If you’re lucky enough to live here – or if you’re considering a move to Montco – December is a great time to experience it all.
It was in December that General George Washington led the Continental Army into Valley Forge. The six-month encampment that followed ultimately became the turning point of the Revolutionary War. Valley Forge National Historical Park commemorates this event on December 19, the actual date of Washington’s march in to the area. The day is filled with ranger-led walks, candlelit tours of the soldier’s huts, a meet and greet with General Washington himself, 18th century musical performances, period refreshments, and more.
