Downhill skiing isn’t for everyone. If speeding down a mountain, waiting in lift lines and fighting crowds isn’t your thing, cross-country skiing might be a better option. Fortunately, if you live in Montgomery County, there are plenty of places to enjoy the quiet and beauty of gliding along on fresh-fallen snow.
Fort Washington State Park offers a 1.7 mile loop, and Evansburg State Park, Lower Perkiomen Valley Park, and Valley Forge National Park all offer a wide variety of cross-county skiing possibilities. If you need equipment, Buckman’s ski shop in King of Prussia offers rentals for the weekend or week. One of the best things about cross country skiing is that you can be spontaneous. Just wait until it snows, then head out to a place close to home.
