Ceilings once painted plain white are getting a facelift, as homeowners discover the possibilities for adding color up top.  Doing so can add drama and sophistication, while solving the problem of rooms where there is no distinct line between the walls and ceiling.

Smaller rooms, such as dens and offices, can benefit from deep, saturated ceiling colors that can add subtle warmth – provided the room gets plenty of light. In larger rooms, painting the ceiling the same color as wall, or using a darker shade to contrast with walls, can actually make the ceiling appear higher.
