Frigid temps outside create the perfect season for inside exploration. In the Greater Philadelphia region, there’s no shortage of museums and indoor spaces for family fun, creativity, inspiration and learning.
The John James Audubon Center in Montgomery County includes a sound forest where you can listen to different birds from various habitats, and an interactive flyaway map where migration patterns of different species are tracked using bulb lighting. You can even peek into an actual bird’s nest. At Doylestown’s Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle, you can explore a real castle, comprised of 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces and more than 200 windows. Hop next door to the Mercer Museum and browse a collection of objects representing everyday life in the pre-industrial age. If you’re a history buff, take a ride to the Valley Forge National Historical Park where you can learn all about George Washington’s encampment during the Revolutionary War. These are just a few of a multitude of cultural riches in this wonderful area.
